Weiss (right), showrunners and creators of Game of Thrones, joined Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) on an interactive panel at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The annual festival brings together tech, film, and music titans to give insight into their industries. The Game of Thrones panel shared some news about the show, but the goodies lied in their behind the scenes secrets that gave fans another look inside the popular series. Check them out below. 2 Jason Momoa’s character, Khal Drogo, was one of the toughest characters to kill off for the show creators. “We never totally recovered from getting rid of him,” Weiss said, and they even brought him back for the season 2 finale because they missed him so much. 3 David Benioff revealed that his favorite character is Sansa Stark. “For me, to be honest, even in the books, book readers would always hate Sansa and I always loved her because she seemed like a real person. Yeah, she’s really annoying sometimes and she’s a stuck up teenager somethings, but she goes through one of the most interesting journeys…She’s always been one of my favorite characters.” 4 Weiss shared how they would play jokes on Kit Harington letting him know that he might not cut it for the masculine, hero-like Jon Snow. “We had a whole story about how HBO felt he was too Disney; he was too Harry Potter.” 5 Kit Harrington got back at Benioff and Weiss by fake cutting his hair, which ahs become so symbolic of his character. “The actors are supposed to look the same more-or-less between seasons. Kit said he was getting annoyed because he wanted to cut his hair. He sent us a picture and he looked like a skinhead, and we were like, ‘Ugh, we’re going to have to get a Prince Charming wig.’” HBO lawyers even got involved and contacted Harington’s agents, but it was all a joke and he didn’t actually cut his hair. 6 If each creator were to bring back a character it would be Catelyn Stark and King Joffrey. “Michelle Fairley (Catelyn) was one of the great actresses and also so much fun,” Benioff said. Weiss stated of the hated teenager king, “Also Jack Gleeson. I miss Jack. He’s the anti-Joffrey in real life.” 7 Wikipedia/MyCanonBenioff and Weiss shared that there was a scene in season 2 where Sansa sings, but it didn’t make the show. However, Sophie Turner is comfortable singing now and is a huge fan of Justin Bieber. When they revealed to her that Ed Sheeran will be guest-starring in season 7 Turner said, “I’m still waiting on Bieber.” 8 Locke, played by Noah Taylor, was a character revealed at the end of season 3 and that was about as far as he was supposed to go. The showrunners said, “He [Locke] had a death scene in Season 3. Nikolaj [Coster-Waldau] was going to throw Noah Taylor’s character into the river and we were going to have him mauled by a bear, and we decided after working with Noah, he should stay on and he was too much fun.” 9 The most expensive death scene to shoot was when Arya Stark killed Meryn Trant. In the bloody scene, Arya slit the throat and poked the eyes of Trant which was a little difficult for the young actor. “She couldn’t really poke out his eyes,” Benioff said of Maisie Williams. 10 The eighth and final season will consist of six episodes, confirming previous rumors. Season 7, which premieres on July 16, is the second to last season and the creators are already prepping for the last and final time their beloved fans will battle for Westeros.
